Re: Dirac Delta Help

gjfelix2001,

Consider a function consisting of a single rectangular pulse whose width is equal to w and amplitude is equal to 1/w. The integral (area) of the function is 1. Now consider the limit of the pulse, as w approaches zero. The integral (area) remains 1, but the amplitude approaches infinity. This is the Dirac Delta function.

Re: Dirac Delta Help

about the need for dirac function:

in physics u need a mathimatical representation for a function that has a huge amplitude and remains for only very short time,,

eg. very large and fast sea wave hits a boat.

eg. transiant reaction for the electrical circuit when switch on/off the power..

etc...

as u see it simplifies such problems,,,,

another note: how to diffrenciate the discountinuty in some function??? u can by the dirac function

Re: Dirac Delta Help

hi
dirac delta = δu(t)/δt
or
∫δ(t)=1 if limit of ∫ is 0- to 0+
