determining polarity of cord

I have a 1964 magnavox astro-sonic stereo. The cord (which i believe to be the power cord) was chewed through completely. I can not find the end of the cord with the plug. I am planning on splicing it with another power cord but I am unsure of which wires to splice with which. Is there a way of determining the polarity that the chewed wires are supposed to be? I'd hate to get them crossed and blow the whole stereo to heck...

Anyone able to help me?

Get to the power on/off switch. One of the terminals should be the
high leg. Black if colored. The chassis will go to ground, if used
(green if cord is colored. The neutral will be white (blue=Europe).
