Dear all,

I initially entered the x-server and type init 3 to enter the commond mode to install a package. But after I installed the package, I couldn't return to the x-server.

I tried init 5 and init 4. there is no use. So how can I return to the graphical interface. I am near crazy now.

Re: Help: how to return to the x-server (graphical interface

Hi,

To enter into GUI mode while the system is booting, in /etc/inittab file you need to have,

id:5:initdefault:
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

If this doesn't work, tell me in which file did you change GUI mode to terminal mode.

Anyway, you can start X server from terminal by

#startx
#startkde

Regards.

and if your desktop envirement is gnome
#gnome-session

or you can just run X server by
#X
to check if you X is ok

bless

$xdm

Why did you try the init 3 at the first place? you could use CTRL+F keys to get the text virtual terminal...

Re: Help: how to return to the x-server (graphical interface

there are seven virtual text terminal provided by system, in GUI mode, just press CTRL+F1-7 to switch, in which F7 is default for GUI.
