Having two different voltage sources inside one circuit

Hello,

I`m dealing with a circuit that must have two different voltage sources:
First one is 5V DC, used to power up a microcontroller, and some sensors.
Second is 12V DC, used to power up some bunch of relays and switches.


After final connections, the negative (-) of the 5V DC, MUST necessarily be connected with the negative (-) of the 12V DC? note that the connections of the 5V circuit are related to the 12V circuit: The 5V circuit gives digital commands for the 12V circuit components
