This should answer some of your questions.

I have found the thread, thank you :D
But i try something simpler without integrated circuits dedicates to you, even with 16f84 or similar

Hi,

8 bit micros can not handle full traffic of ide interface.16F84 even can't handle usb traffic! It is too slow to do it :)

What about C8051F321 (www.cygnal.com)?

It's a 25MIPS 8051 CPU with USB 2.0 Function Controller.

Hi,

25MIPS is enough to handle it, sure. You can easily find ide<->usb project for 8051 core.Try to search in forum.

The Cygnal part is not a USB 2.0 Function controller !
It is only compatiple with the 2.0 spec (like almost all USB 1.1 devices.

It can only handle 12 MBit and 1.5 MBit datarates .

Cypress is sampling the ISD-300LP(TM) (CY7C68310) low-power mass-storage controller. Compatible with all industry-standard ATA/ATAPI devices, the ISD-300LP enables portable computer users to take their mass-storage subsystems with them without the need to plug into wall outlets.

USB 2.0 harddisk connection and MP3player in one.
You can leave out the MP3 part if you only want an USB 2.0 harddisk interface. The USB 2.0 interface is very simle, it uses the Cypress CY7C68300A: **broken link removed**

Hi dainis,

you mean Cypress can send me samples of this chip?
I can't find any info about requesting samples on the site...
Can you please show me how to do it?

I also wrote a letter to www.smsc.com they have a pretty good
USB to ATA bridge too, but they did not answered... :(

I would like to get a sample USB to ATA chip to test with my
MP3 project.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Zedman

But it looks like you can only order Programmable System-on-Chip (PSoC) devices.

Yupp, and now iam sad...

Even microchip is discontinued shipping samples here...
Now I should burn down 2-3 expensive chips to get a thing work, and
than buy one that will be in the project... damn :)

Thanks,
Zed

you can use hard disk or cd-rom.
