Hi all, I am sylvain named as Sylva.
I really wanted some help, I am working on a gsm-gps tracking system where I will need to introduce the concept of gsm and gps modules.
I have some ideas but I would be really pleased to receive from your knowledge that is why I am writing this concern.
another issue still in the same topic is about power management. that one we can discuss about it after the first one is solved.
thank you a lot for your help

Re: gsm-gps tracking system

have a look at Sirf Star IV low power GPS
https://gps.about.com/od/newproducts/a/SiRFstarIV.htm

and Wismo228 GSM/GPRS
**broken link removed**

the main problem with GPS is its failure within buildings - we use a LPRF fence within buildings

we also used MOSFETs to switch the devices off

Thanks a lot Horace,*** bless you! I will have a look and will maybe come back to you!
one more thing, the system might be needing enough power to sustain.
I thought about small batteries to implement because I am going to do it that tracker in the size of a credit card.
I also thought of solar cell in the batteries go off
and the new thing is I wanted to add a system of light energy, meaning to use any type of light to produce energy, not only the sun.
can you please help on that also?

thanks a lot

Re: gsm-gps tracking system

there are ultra low power devices for battery applications
https://www.microchip.com/pagehandler/en-us/technology/xlp/

in the main the device is in sleep mode and you wake it up every so often or if anything goes wrong.

the trick is to make sure everything is switched off - have a read thru Microchip's application notes.
we had problems switching off GPS and GSM modems and in the end used external MODFETs.

never thought of using solar energy as we were working indoors most of the time

thinking of size the GSM and GPS antennas can be large compared to everything else.
