Thanks . Another thing, when the current flows in the beginning from the positive rail (when the capacitor is charging), does it only travel up to the top plate and not to earth, since there is an open space (dielectric) between to 2 plates?

Capacitors will pass current while charging. They can be used to sort AC and DC signals. Caps allow AC through but not DC.
