GLOBAL PLACEMENT AND DETAIL PLACEMENT

can any one explain the difference between global placement and detailed placement

Global placement - objective is reduce the interconnect length. the CAD algorithm mainly work on a big design and tries to reduce the interconnect length and group the cells.


Detailed Placement - cells are properly aligned with the VDD & VSS rails (in case of flip placement) . legalization of cells are done during this place. this works in smaller zones unlike global placement.
