I have designed a horn antenna using an antenna simulation software (FEKOLite) providing an antenna gain of 18 dBi, where as after doing the mathematical analysis of the same horn antenna, it provides an antenna gaiin of 20 dBi. I wanted to know if any one havve used FEKO for design of horn antenna and why is the difference of 2dB antenna gain is coming. which one is correct
One thing to keep in mind is the phase of the transmitted wave just outside the horn. If it is not the same across the aperture, the gain will be less than the theoretical maximum. In cases where cost is not important, a dielectric lens is put in the aperture to correct the phase.
I know that now, at present days, the small gain horn is still a study matter.
But horns with 18 or 20 dB gain MUST be well known, well implemented inside simulators, and well validated.
If you are extremally sure that your job is error free, plese consider the possibility of a "bug".
If you write in this forum the dimension and the geometry, someone may perform an indipendent calculation.
Seems the design doesn't accounted phase effect in aperture.
If possible post here the equations you used and sketch of horn. We will try to make simulation.
Thx for ur replies. I will be giving the complete dimensions along with upload my design file if some one have FEKO in one or two days. Kindly help me in this regard as much as possible. Wanted to become a good antenna design engineer
