I'm trying to determine if there is anything about the altera design flow that benefits from the built in text editor over, say vim or emacs. Thus far I've been very disappointed by altera's documentation.
mainly, I'm looking for the following functions:
1.) vertical split pane view.
2.) insert-mode macros (imap from vim) for things like std_logic_vector, downto, -'s to char 80, and a few others.
3.) python scripting interface (eg, having a python script modify the buffer)
4.) manual code folding markers. eg {{{ and }}}.
5.) block editing features.
There were a handful of options in the GUI, but nowhere near enough to be useful.
