how xilinx spartan designs can be protected against illegal copy?

Is there any mechanism it the xilinx FPGAs for protection?

I think bitstream encryption is available only in Virtex-II, Virtex-II Pro, and Virtex-4.
See the ISE "Development System Reference Guide", chapter "BitGen", description of the Encrypt option.

have also software protection lock for spartan ?

seems very easy can copy prom .... other lock memory (such as replacing PROM with one Lock MCU) seem hack with one spy system log data between mcu and spartan ...

is ok ?
