hi
I need some help on fourier and inverse fourier transform. this is what i want to do.

i) i have a time signal 110 ms in length. the data is a 2048 by 1. now if i take the fourier transform in will gave me 2048 by 1 matrix. i want to reduce this size to get a time signal of 1 fourth of its original length. now i do not want to change the spacing between the successive times. it will reduce the maximum frequency of the spectrum.

ii) so i need the take one fourth the data from the fourier transform and do the inverse fourier transform. in taking so i need to keep a syymetry to maintain real value after inverse fourier transform.
is there any idea how to do it in matlab.

thanks in advance for helping
