I am not very familiar with video standards. I need to know if I can demodulate an FM modulated video signal with TDA9886. On the datasheet of TDA9886, it claims that it is a demodulator for FM TV. However, the block diagram given in the datasheet looks more like an AM demodulator for video and FM demodulator for sound. I attached the block diagram. The datasheet for TDA9886 can be found here: **broken link removed**
As the vision comes from the Vision IF PLL,this will be trying to phase lock to the FM IF, so its output will be following the VIF frequency modulation.

The reason you are puzzled is because television video signals are AM modulated and television audio signals are FM modulated. So you have to carry out two different demodulation processes to obtain both the video and the audio. Hope this sheds some light on your question.
jtrent, your assumption is only true for older terrestrial TV broadcasts. In Europe, and I guess most other places, almost all video is either digital (QAM or OFDM) or FM from satellite.
From the data sheet it looks like that IC decodes FM video and can decode AM or FM sound.
