Hello
I don't know if this could the right forum to ask about but I am on the search of a mini relay for an electric golf car project.
I was looking extensively over the electronics online internet providers and manufacturers without much luck.
Basically I need a mini relay with:
.coil 48VDC with power consumption under 220mW
.contacts capable of at least 5A at 12vdc
I will use this relay attached to an electronic speed controller that feeds 48vdc rated at 280mW power according to manufacturer (alltraxinc.com)
I found one china manufacturer that makes a model but I couldn't find a cross reference for that one on brands available on the United States.

I happen to be here asking as this is an electronics board and many of you guys are daily working with this kind of products and could help me to find something on this issue?
The crude and easy method is to use a 24VDC coil Relay (having your required contact rating) which can be found easily. Use a 5600 ohm 1W or 2W resistor in series with the coil.
Using your criteria with Digikey.com parametric search, I get two matches. Most relays with sufficient power capacity have higher coil power consumption, but Tyco/Schrack seems to fit (hopefully also in terms of size).
I have easy access to a relay from NTE which has to be likely what I need but only for 1 issue: the Nominal coil power is over 500mW and the controller is only capable of peak 280mw.
The NTE R25-5D16-48 is the one in question and the question is if there is some way to use something for limiting coil consumption under the 220mw. For logic I would think that this way we would reduce voltage causing less power on the coil and diminishing relay performance, but just asking.
power reduction actually can be done with a capacitive shunted series resistance, but requires the control circuit to source full current for a few milliseconds. Relays of the said type could be expected to have maximum holding voltage around 40 % of nominal voltage, reducing permanent power requirement to ≈220 mW.
