Filter that has two independent gains at different freq?

I need to design a filter that has independent gain values at two different frequencies. Do you basically run the original signal threw two filters in parallel then add these two signals together?

filter your signals of interest and pass them along two different paths... amplify the two signals according to your requirements and add them....
