fedora core 5 X server crashed, help required!

Hello Everyone, I would appreciate it very much if someone can help me on this...

I'm running FC5. I had an app that is only available via an RPM package which requires libXft.so.1 to run.

Unfortunately it seems this is a deprecated library with this version of Xorg and as such is not included. The most recent RPM which includes libXft.so.1 that I could find was this: xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-37.FC4.49.2.1.i386.rpm

Initially on installing this it seemed to have resolved my problem - the app started and worked perfectly; however, when I next came to reboot my system it started udev and then the screen went blank (assuming this is when it started X).

I am guessing that Removing the FC4 rpm will solve the issue
rpm -e --nodeps xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-37.FC4.49.2.1 but how to get a console window?

I don't have any control over the machine. I don't know how to get the command prompt. Does anyone have a clue? Fedora seems to be booting up ok but then a black screen comes. It says failed to start X server. When I diagnose the X server it shows the error:

Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I have all the installer disks...Any help will be apreciated

The black screen gives the option to configure the X server. THen it shows these messages
couldn't start X server on card 0
couldn't start X server on card 1
couldn't start X server with old config, trying a fresh configuration
couldn't start X server on card 0
trying to restart server

Well you need to boot in to runlevel 3. Can't remember at the moment how to boot directly at run level three but I 'm shure it's on the net google for boot in to "runlevel 3" help
