my external hard disc with the following details p/N:WDBABV5000ABK-00
S/N:WXA1AB0A0342
2111B
R/N:D2B
DAAAAA
memory space: 500gb
stopped working all of a sudden but the computer still recognizes as recovery disec d
somebody should please help me

Check the disk for errors...check the USB cable...

If his PC is seeing it as a recovery disc, then I doubt it is the USB cable. Also hard to check for errors if the OS thinks it is something other that what it is.

@flavin: what exactly does it say when you try to open the disk?
Does it say "do you want to format it now?" sort of message?

@ arunava nope it does not open if I continue to try the system will go off

Try opening it by using right click > explore.

And by the way do you keep files in thumbnail mode?

More commonly, you may have pulled the plug on the drive while it was still writing - always use the "safely remove hardware" icon to power down and disconnect the drive before removing it.Try another USB plug. Use one on the back of the computer, it would be the best. This has been known to sometimes work.Try to plug in the USB drive before you turn on the computer. Or if you've done that - try to plug in the USB drive after the computer is on.

Check> Go to device manager , open the USB controllers , If you find one with a yellow check mark, uninstall it , then rescan for hardware changes - Windows should reinstall the USB driver at this point.
