Hello,

I'm currently designing a Patterned (w/ Slots) Marchand Balun to increase the Even/Odd Impedance Ratio for good balance.

LineCalc is able to simulate Zoe and Zoo given the width and spacing of a coupled lines but it assumes an infinite ground plane.

However, for the patterned ground plane, the LineCalc would not be applicable. Any idea on how to simulate this using ADS?

"There is 2 way to do this:

1) Define the Defected Ground Structure (DGS) on the SLOT layer.
2) Define it on the STRIP layer and assign ground reference ports on it.

Or you can use a 3D simulator like HFSS and CST.

Hi,

I appreciate your inputs.
ADS2009 actually have an integrated full 3D simulator which is the EMDS. Are you familiar with this?

Simulation in ADS Momentum only yields S-parameters. I don't think it is able to output the even/odd impedance data for the coupled lines in a Marchand Balun.
