Hi

How can I calculate even and odd mode velocities in quasi-TEM mode for transmission lines?

Welcome s.rebelli,

By using transmission-line theory in the multiconductor case.

What data do you have?

Hi

I am using transmission line theory for two-conductors.

Data: Resistance(R) = 150KΩ/m ,
Capacitance(C) = 15.11 pico F/m,
Inductance (L)= 1.645µH/m,
coupling capacitance (Cc)= 98.59 pico F/m,
Mutual Inductance (Lm)= 1.484 µH/m,

Relative permittivity of inter layer dielectric medium (εr)=2.2

I'm guessing the two non-reference conductors are the same physically, as you just have the one value each of C and L. Also, the resistance seems a bit high, you might want to check this (do you mean conductance?)

Use the above data to form (complex) matrices [Z] = [R] + jω[L] and [Y] = jω[C], where

[R] = [R,0,0,R]
[C] = [C,-Cc;-Cc,C]
[L] = [L,Lm;Lm,L]

The terminal phase velocities are then given by the full matrix ([Z]*[Y])^(1/2). Taking the eigenmodes of this matrix gives the modal phase velocities - these are the two that you want.

Good Luck
