We are looking for solutions to automate comprehensive testing of the existing protection system at hydropower facilities. Primarily we want to build a prototype that improves the reliability of hydropower facilities by automating the testing of the existing protection system, without requiring plants to be off-line and that are not labor-intensive

Make power systems more reliable by automating maintenance testing of protective relays and associated potential and current transformers.

Kindly input your ideas.

Thank you,
Shaan

This has been done over and again and proprietary systems are available for turbines from 100kW up to 50MW

you just need to learn to search the internet better.

Perhaps an add-on in the form of a momentary push-button? Soldered any place you want to trigger an alert? Example, sensor leads. Press the switch to mimic failure of the sensor.

As you know it's a good idea to have backup components, such as two duplicate sensors. If you can arrange to test one at a time, then it causes a warning, but not a false alarm.

Or a reed switch. It closes when you bring a magnet near. Such a switch can be hidden behind a panel (of non-ferrous material). No need to drill holes.

Or fiber optics carrying light to photosensors. These are installed in places where you want to switch something on or off as a means of testing.

Behavior might be affected by a magnet held close, or moved back-and-forth.

The idea of automating tests is appealing however it sounds labor-intensive, requiring you to install cables or fibers between equipment across the facility. That is, if you wish to avoid interfering with normal functions of essential links between equipment.

He is pretty good at this! Thanks!

TBH, I came here for marketing the AMPS challenge. you seem to be knowledgeable, would you be interested to submit a white paper solution.

Phase 1 winners will get 10k and will automatically enter phase 2 and build a prototype for the chance to win another 100k. opportunity to work with Bureau of reclamation and their partners. Most importantly you can commercialize your solution nationally or globally, regardless of contest outcome.

your thoughts?

If it was simple though, we wouldn't have invited people for AMPS challenge and awarding them10k for the winner just to submit a white paper and 100k for the prototype. it's more complex than you think. Do you wanna take up this challenge and commercialize your solution nationally or globally, regardless of the contest outcome?

Let me know, if you are confident about it we can certainly discuss more. You can also reach me at (moderator action: removed private e-mail address)

already done it - total project cost USD $ 1.37M
Awesome! Why don't you participate in this AMPS challenge and commercialize your solution nationally or globally, regardless of contest outcome?

well, we already got paid pretty handsomely for our design and developments efforts, so ....
