Effect of larger than required decoupling cap value

Decoupling cap is used to stabilize the power rail voltage.
What if the selected decoupling cap value is far more larger than it is actually required?

Too large a decoupling capacitor (that is , "far more larger") will likely have a higher ESR than appropriate, smaller capacitors. That will tend to defeat its purpose of decoupling fast transitions.
