I built a Schaer+ and programmed my 18f with it, then tried to use it to program my ds30, and it didn't work.

Checked the pinout, realized the difference in pins, and corrected them all save one.

I was wondering if anybody knew the ds30 equivalent of the 18f's RD/AN5/RE0

Thanks

Hi,

Have never heard of the P16PRO type of parallel prorammmer doing anything more than a limited range of 16F and 18F chips - ds30 would be amazing.

Does your software support the ds30 chips..?

Fail to see the relevance of pin RE0 its just an i/o pin - nothing to do with programming as far as I am aware ?

Again as far as I know you need a Picit2/3 or ICD2/3 to run the ds30 range.

Okay, so I built the IDC2 clone, and I'm missing one component (lost to my room's sly habit of making things dissapear. The one component is the oscillator :\

What would happen if I put in a 16mhz ceramic oscillator into the circuit rather than the 20mhz? Is there some sort of internal looping that's defaultly enabled on the pic16 that could mess things up with a lower frequency?

You should probably just look up a new one on digikey; they are pretty cheap. If the PIC program uses any timers at all it'll probably not work.

Hi,

What would happen if I put in a 16mhz ceramic oscillator into the circuit rather than the 20mhz?
Well thats a large difference, all the chips timings and delays for programming are based on 20mhz so what would happen with a 20% reduction in speed I'm not sure.

Possibly because its slower you might get away with it - although I would assume the ds30 might not be as tollerant as say a 16F chip ?
