30f2020

hello guys
i'm working with dspic30f2020 for switch mode power supply .

the chip is too hot . in datasheet says it consume 200ma in normal mode
anybody have any experience with this?

smps controller

Maybe a flaw in the silicon? Have you tried it with a new other PIC yet?

dspic30f smps data sheet

Dear Alec,

Check wheather the I/O pins of the DSPic is geting loaded in any section of the Smps. The main reason may be any flaws in the design of bias circuit of the Power device .check it out.

hot power supply for dspic30f

Dear Alec ,

For 250 ma the heat will be very normal. If it seems abnormal , Check the IO pins that you have connected to the power drivers.

How you had interfaced the IO line with the power driver ?.

Regards,
S.Vigneshwaran.

except of power supply ,all of IO not connected ( i don't connect next stage)
u haven't this problem with 30f2020?

dspic smps

Dear Alec ,

If the Reset and Oscillator circuitry are Ok , then that would be the nominal heat o the Microcontroller.

So no need for you to worry .

the temprature rich up to 60°c in the room.
if ambient temprature rise and MCU work under hot condition it maybe damage
anyone have some experience with this?

I have the same phenomena.
At 5v supply voltage the chip (20MIPS) consumes about 180ma and it has about 40C rise above ambient.
This behavioral was observed at different chips on different boards. I guess it's normal.

It is quite normal for these chips to be so hot. I have had this problem before using this chip as well as various other chips. They do run considerably cooler if you run at 3.3V instead of 5V. The other option is to buy a stick on heatsink.
