How can i drive a triac from a 16c54 with only a resistor to drive a selenoid working 220 volt 50 Hz.

Thanks advance.

This is not a software request. Moved here!

Make life easier and use a logic level triac

how to drive triac

make the common rail for the pic the same as the triac but better to use a opto isolated triac as a driver for the main triac gate

Hi,

You can put in one of the PICport the AC wave using a zener (4.7v) and a resistor. With this you detect the transition from the negative cycle to the positive cycle, from this point you may count the required time to activate the gate of triac (maybe with a transistor).

NT: using this approach you must be very careful with:
- Line isolation (isolation of your circuit from AC line)
- Voltage reference (In the way to trigger the triac gate, and get the cicle transition on the port of the PIC)

Perhaps you could have a look at this Zilog Application Note of a dimmer

Z86C02 is very similar to PIC16C54.

drive triac

There are good IC triac modules. Optocoupler input and triac outputs.
you use only one IC and snubber circuit.

This IC not expensive.

I dont remember any component name.

If you want to use a triac you must produce good trigger signals becouse
some triacs not triggered at negative period by positive trigger puls. Therfore you can not use DC puls.

Use MOC series opto coupler for triggering.
