Does NIOS and NIOS II need other licenses?

Hello leonqin,

The old Nios Development Kit does not require a license. The new Nios II needs a license.

NIOS or NIOS II develop

The old Nios (3.0, 3.1 and 3.2) no need any extra license for full compilation. For Nios II, you need an extra license to compile the Nios II cpu or a time-limited sof file will be generated.

Note: The cpu.v is encrypted when generate by sopc builder 4.0. However, there is no different of generated cpu.v between a licensed or un-licensed sopc builder. Only the compilation in quartus will determine the sof file to be full feature or time-limited
