Does any one ever break the write/erase limit?

Does any one ever break the write/erase limit of a microcontroller flash rom? Usually its about 10000 cycle. If so, what effect do you really get after you pas that limit?

Ereasing is failing each time. So some bytes in the memory will not return to 0xFF state but will be something like 0xEF even if you erease 10- times they stay the same.

How about when I try to write, it did but always fail the verification? is that a symptom of a wear off micros?
