[SOLVED] Does an analogue composite video signal have sync negative pulses included?

Does an analogue composite video signal have sync negative pulses included in it?
These "tv monitors" did so back in the 80's but I consider the standard analogue video input of an analogue tv today. Does it still require these pulses to display video properly?
 

As far as I know, composite video specifications haven't changed and you need the sync pulses. The display (or whatever receives the signal) has to work out the sync somehow.
