analog ic design toronto

Dear All:
I have been a Process Integrated Engineer(PIE) for one year, before that i had been a Process Engineer(PE) for two years.
I have learned some analog IC design books, such as Microelectronics Circuits, Semiconductor Devices, The art of Analog IC Layout, Analysis and Design of Analog Integrated Circuits( "learned" means read the books twice and finished the exercises all by myself), but learned nothing about EDA tools except L-Edit, and almost know nothing abbout Linux or Unix operation system. I'm 26 years old, and just have BSEE.
Recently i receive an offer from a unfamous company, but much less salary than my current job. I am deeply in a quandary, it's very kind of you to gave me some advice focusing on the following two aspects:
1. Do i suit to be an analog IC designer, including my knowledge accumulation, working experience and age.
2. what should i do next to improve my ability if i still choose to be an IC designer.

Thanks a lot, and have a nice day!

analog ic designer toronto

u can be a analog designer after ur graduation from your high school.

u can not be a good analog designer unless u r good at math and physics.

is msee harder than bsee

Dear neoflash, there have no any company would give a chance to a unfamiliar BSEE, almost all the design houses require a MSEE or BSEE with many years experiences, so i became a PE three years ago, then a PIE, i hope my past working experiences can help me.

If u still chose to be a designer, stop working as a PIE as quickly as possible.

Starting a new career might be hard in the very beginning, but you will feel much better many years later.

Remember, we engineers have nothing to lose.

Being a PE gives you an edge over freshie, you would have knowledge on transistors mismatch, process variation ...

You had better to get a MSEE first.

After all, it only took you 2 or 3 years. And, if you can accept the salary much less than you have now, then of course you can throw away your salary completely for 2 years.

no problem, just spend time to read some book, solve the problems in textbook, browse IEEE solid state circuit once a month, try to visit forum AFAP, build some IP block youself. That will be a good beginning

i guess you can but it will take time. i guess. just like what they say experience is the best teacher. but its your interest and perseverance that will determine it. I have friends who studied hotel management but they are very good programmers.

Hi YiAndLu,

If I am Not wrong for good layout design engg knowledge of fabrication process is plus and for good circuit design engg both layout design and fabrication process are plus.

So your experience will be plus only.

pls correct if anything is wrong.

Thanks & Regards

Sai

if you want to be an analog IC designer, I think your knowledge should improve, including analysis of circuit, signal and system, and maths.
