DIMM = dual in-line memory modules

what's the meaning of dual in-line memory modules? What is dual in-line stands for?
 

In a SIMM, the 32 pins from one side were connected with the 32 pins from other side of the board.

In a DIMM, you have 64 pins to connect with the PC port.

For instance, in Pentium PCs, requiring 64 bits, you'll need to put two SIMM modules at the same time but you can place only ONE DIMM module...
