The main element of the digital pencil-case is Arduino Duemilanove (Atmega328) supported by the display hd44780 20x4, RTC clock DS1307 (with dedicated battery) adn temperature sensor MCP9700. Digital pencil-case is powered by 6 AA batteries, which give in total 9V. 3 buttons are used for navigation (+, -, OK). There is also a switch (information sheet lock).

Functions:
  • display date and time
  • set date and time
  • thermometer
  • store the highest and lowest temperatures
  • battery monitor
  • „information sheet” mode: 80 lines x 20 characters each = 1600 characters – activated by a button or closing a pencil with a magnet, the information is defined in the program code
  • lock mode
  • scrolling by two buttons

And this is the pencil with magnet. When you close it to approximately 3cm, it shorts the reed contacts which in turn results in displaying the information. After moving the magnet, saved text disappears and start screen is displayed.

I don't promote cheating, but THIS is a nice idea!!!!

You could have two reed switches and use the pencil to 'swing' to the next page or going 'back' without the need to touch the buttons...
less suspicious...
