mdac attenuator

can anybody explain it or direct me to a good source, please? Information on this subject is very scarce online even from manufacturers! in MDAC datasheets it has been mentioned that it can be used as a digital attenuator with no more explaination. thanks in advance.

You can combine a MDAC and an OA to generate a variable gain amplifier, using an inverting configuration. Read your MDAC's application notes.

For example, look at dac8802's datasheet.
