Hi,
We need a screened 3 metre cable for passing isolated 12V, 1A from a metal panel containing an offline flyback to another panel.
Which gives better screening in the 30MHz to 350MHz region of radiated emissions, "braided screened cable" , or "foil screened cable with bare touching wire"......?

"braided screened cable" , Farnell 1504145

"foil screened cable with bare touching wire", Farnell 1923983

In my experience foil screened cable works just as well if the cable isn't flexed too much. Braid is far more forgiving if the cable is moved around whereas foil tends to fracture. The 'bare touching wire' will maintain continuity but you could find lots of short lengths of screen instead of one long one and the inductance of the wire will then come into play and reduce the screening effect.

Brian.
