Hi All,

Good Morning.

Please list out all the differences between Linear and Switching regulators.

I need the differences only.

TIA.,

Deepak

Linear Regulator

+ points///-----/// - points
1. Low noise///-----/// Bulky in size & weight
2. Low ripple///-----/// Generates lot of heat
3. Fast transient responce///-----/// Low in efficiency
4. Low EMI ///-----/// Narrow input range (input supply)
5. Easy to design///-----/// consumes more copper

Switching Regulator
+ points///-----/// - points
1. High Efficiency///-----/// Generates EMI
2. Very compact & light weight///-----/// Ripple & noise are high but can be controlled
3. Wide input range///-----/// Poor power factor
4. consumes less copper///-----/// Compare to linear slow transient load responce.
complex design.

Hi,

Thank you very much.It was very informative.

Regards
Deepak
