Hi,

what is the difference between step model and PCB3D file in altium designer.

In the schematic part editor there is Add PCB3D option, what is the difference between attaching step model to the footprint and using add PCB3D option?

thanks

Hi,
PCB3D is a legacy library type, not used from Altium Designer 10 onwards. 3D models are now incorporated into the footprint, in the footprint library.

An old one, used on very old versions of the software, the old way of doing it.
meaning "not the way it's done now".

.STP/.STEP is the modern common way of exchanging 3D models

BTW - have you tried googling the term "legacy" ?
