hi

both are using different technologies
that's the difference

ml

what kind of different technologies they are using....?

hi
which type of lcd you are referring with? graphical/charector/segment?
single led/led array/7 segment?
all are different

ml

hi
just download the datasheet and you will understand
the lcd have an inbuilt processor which controls the display here you communicate with this inbuilt processor
in led's you are directly on/off the led's with used defined hardware

The 4511 IC is handy to use for driving a 7 segment LED. Below is a link which describes it.

It mentions the 4543 as a useful IC for driving a 7 segment LCD.

An LCD display requires a low level AC square wave to operate it, in addition to the signals that make the segments go dark or light.
