Hi, does anyone know if there is a difference between a ByteBlaster II cable and FPGA JTAG cable?

Byte Blaster II is the latest Altera FPGA programming cable controlled by PC printer board, about 15 years old. Byte Blaster clones have been popular because they can be built with little hardware, Now they are obsolete due to lack of LPT port on most PCs.

Not sure which hardware you mean with "FPGA JTAG cable"?

USB-Blaster II is the recent FPGA programming adapter offered by Intel/Altera. The same hardware is also implemented as onboard circuit of some development boards. Presently most third party Intel/Altera programming adapters are clones of the older USB Blaster.

There are also third party programming adapters using own driver software, e.g. Arrow USB Blaster.
