Difference b/w Decoupling and bypass capacitors

Hi everyone,

can anybody explain the difference b/w Decoupling and bypass capacitors.

How does these work.

An alternative name of decoupling capacitor is bypass capacitor
 

I does not look like there is a difference
 

A same cap is called different by different communities.

in AC terminology the cap actually conducts high freq noises. thus the name bypass

in DC terminilogy the cap keeps the DC voltages, applied to its terminals intact, thus the name decoupling cap.
 
when u bias any active circuit at i/p and o/p of the device u place DC block caps! These caps allow AC to pass thru and maintain DC within the active block.

Bypass capacitor is used for AC noise bypassing mainly at the DC supply output terminals to prevent noise from supply to enter the bias block and cause disturbances in the design.

all in all, both are capacitors but different functions in different areas of the circuit.
