difference between 2g and 3g

Hi,

Can anybody let us know what are the major differences between 2G and 3G.
Please post the specs if available.

Regards,
Sandeep

difference between 3g and 2g

2G & 3G the major different only on in 3G the speed for packet data is higher.
Where it up to 384Kbps.
For voice & sms its still the same.

2g 3g difference

This might help u a bit ..

difference between 2g and 3g technology

simplest awnser can be that 2G use different switching techniques for voice and data,where 3G uses single switching for any kind of data

3g 2g difference

Two main Difference are there between 2-G and 3-G.

Data Rate Difference
Modulation Frequency Difference

of radio spectrum (among other functions) allocated the bands 890-915 MHz for the uplink (mobile station to base station) and 935-960 MHz for the downlink (base station to mobile station) for mobile networks in Europe.
Since this range was already being used in the early 1980s by the analog systems of the day, the CEPT had the foresight to reserve the top 10 MHz of each band for the GSM network that was still being developed. Eventually, GSM will be allocated the entire 2x25 MHz bandwidth.
Since radio spectrum is a limited resource shared by all users, a method must be devised to divide up the bandwidth among as many users as possible.
The method chosen by GSM is a combination of Time and Frequency Division Multiple Access (TDMA/FDMA). The FDMA part involves the division by frequency of the total 25 MHz bandwidth into 124 carrier frequencies of 200 kHz bandwidth. One or more carrier frequencies are then assigned to each base station. Each of these carrier frequencies is then divided in time, using a TDMA scheme, into eight time slots. One time slot is used for transmission by the mobile and one for reception. They are separated in time so that the mobile unit does not receive and transmit at the same time, a fact that simplifies the electronics.

difference 2g 3g

the main difference is a speed! please read only 3G&4G parts of this thesis.

what is difference between 2g and 3g

Thanks for the info guys...

different between 2g and 3g

Difference in terms of what?

The main difference is, 2G is circuit-switched, but 3G is packet-switched.

what is the difference between 2g and 3g

otherthing more!

1. GSM uses TDMA technology with narrowband 200Khz. To make a call, each user must occupy a frequency. This is reason of interference as well as limited frequency resource during frequeny planning when expanded coverage.

2. 3G (WCDMA) use CDMA technology with broadband 5Mhz, the same frequency carrier, time and division following code. Hence, the speed is increased as well as intererence of frequency do not happen.

In addition, there are many thing that describe the difference between 2 technical. You can download document from internet or buy book to research. It is realy interesting.

here, i mean WCDMA, not CDMA

differences between 2g and 3g

Checkout the main differences between 3G from 2G

Bit rates up to 2 Mbps;

Variable bit rate to offer bandwidth on demand;

Multiplexing of services with different quality requirements on a single connection, e.g. speech, video and packet data;

Delay requirements from delay-sensitive real time traffic to flexible best-effort packet data;

Quality requirements from 10 % frame error rate to 106 bit error rate;

Co-existence of second and third generation systems and inter-system handovers for coverage enhancements and load balancing;

Support of asymmetric uplink and downlink traffic, e.g. web browsing causes more loading to downlink than to uplink;

High spectrum efficiency;

Co-existence of FDD and TDD modes.

2G and 3G both are commercial name coming from ETSI/3GPP. The major noticeable difference in 3G technology wise from 2G is over all change of system architecture, modulation scheme and overall network performance. 3G is some more step ahead of higher data rates than 2G which brings better streaming video, faster web access and faster access to thousands of mobile Apps. Modulation scheme also significantly changed in 3G. For further study please check out 3GPP

The bandwidth at which they operate is also different.

The main difference by which 3g differs from 2g is its packet data,speed of data transfers,its security and many other features like mobile TV, video transfers and GPS systems.
