electronic die component

Hi all!

this is my new post here. Nice to meet you.

Please, I always have been asking myself why electronic componentes fault by itself, I mean the life span util of a component.

I understand the problem with electronic capacitors, but semiconductors they fail due the electromigration; as far as I know this happend only in integrated circuits, but then, why discrete semiconductors has they own life span? Wich is the process of a transistor o diode die by itself?

Thank you for reading.

Semiconductors died because thermal fatigue.
Several turns on & off of devices expands and contracts semiconductors cristals and finally it died.
If you turn on a device and don't turn it off is less probably that it died, MTBF in always turn on devices is normaly 20 times devices that are turned on & off.
( MTBF is medium time between fails ).
Solder joints have the same problem.
