hello, i m sachin
i am new in antenna field.
i want to design a wlan antenna, so i want to know about the requirement of basic parameters. i want to know that what should be the minimum gain, directivity, effieciencies for wlan antenna?
And i want to know that which antenna tool is best for designing wlan antenn? should i work on IE3D or on hfss or on cst?
please someone guide me, i will be very thankful to you.
hi
which kind of WLAN antenna u want to design ?
usually gain and directivity and efficiency not important for WLAN antenna
the best software for this application CST and HFSS

Hello Ferdows,Thanks for Reply.
i m new in antenna field, so dont know much about diffrent kinds of WLAN.so what do you mean by "which kind of WLAN antenna"
i want to design dual band Wlan antenna.
i want to design WLAN antenna because i have heard this antenna is very useful these days for wireless communication.
can you please tell me about designing of Wlan antenna and thnx for telling me that HFSS and CST are good for Wlan.
i will start working designing using HFSS and CST.
Hello, I am new too in this antenna field. I also want to connect 2 separate locations 15-17km(10-11 miles) together with wireless. I would be glad to buy 2 already made antennas but I don't know which characteristics would suit my needs. As for your question I think ferdows was referring to the 2 types of antennas: directional or omnidirectional.
hello ferdows,
you told me that gain, directivity and efficienies are not important parameters for WLAN antenna, then please tell me which parameter is important for WLAN antenna and can you give me some tips for designing WLAN antenna.
thank you
i have designed an antenna, it is giving frequency between 3Ghz to 4Ghz and its is tri band frequencies, the bandwidth is upto 1ghz efficenies are 90% and 95%.

you can't cover 15 km with wifi ... 2.4GHz is for relative short range communication and you musn't boost your power above 20 dBm according to the related standard appliable for wifi.
