When designing a dc to dc convertor, and you have a range of inputs, for example the input varies from 10-20V and the output should be 30, do you design for the input of 10 or do you design for 20?

What if the output needs to be lets say 15v(buck boost)???

Re: DC-DC Convertor

It all depends on the topology you use. You have to figure out which input voltage will produce the higher stress on the components.

In some topologies you'll have to design some parameters with the lowest input voltage and some others with the highest.

Re: DC-DC Convertor

You cant do a property DC-DC convertor that works between those voltages. You firstly must reduce the voltage into 10V or so and then with a boost or buck-boost (even a CuK, thought) rise it to 30V. I think is better if you reduce the wide of input voltages, then it will be work better.

Re: DC-DC Convertor

Well, it was an exam question, so I believe you can??

Re: DC-DC Convertor

The input voltage, output voltage, ripple and power are usually design parameters. After that you select the most properly topology. Now you are ready to select the DC-DC converter chip. So then you can begin the calculations to determine the component values including the switching frecuency.
