I need to design and make a device that will be able to measure the depth of sea.I am considering to design an echosounder, but if itz feasible than other technologies can also be chosen.

My requirements:

1. The device will be placed in fishing boats and it should be able to measure depth in deep sea, where the average depth is 2000 meters.

2. The device will get a limited amount of power supply,as our plan is to make it a solar powered device.

Can anybody provide any suggestion/reference about this? Thanks.
