hi guys,

i'm just wondering wat causes data errors or data lost due to line noise for a serial communication?

any other additional causes?

So what is the best way to over come data errors or data lost?i know we can use CRC to settle this probelm but is it the best?

Hi

That depend on the data transfer rate and distance - the best use RS422 or RS485

Some of the ways to detect errors:

* parity bit
* checksum
* crc

The choice depends on several factors, including how severe you expect the interference to be and message size (how many characters in message).

Another twist to this business is the use of something like intel hex format, which combines a checksum with a restricted character set.
