current sink... uln2003

hi there... could somebody discuss or explain what current sinking is and when it is applicable...
.. thank you very much...
 

uln2003 is a buffer, meant to sink 500mA per buffer.
the uln2003 can be operated with a low power cmos input.

the catch is its a barrier which manges higher loads such as stepper motors, set of relays etc, without harming the input
what else do u want to know?
the controllers such as 8051 there are current limiters for every port, limiting to around 10 to 20mA, before the port is opened

DONT CONNECT ULN2003 TO MICROCONTROLLER PORT

USE A PULLUP AND CURRENT LIMITING RESISTORS AT THE MICROCONTROLLER PORT
