Hi,
I need to power a Bluetooth module (Atmosic ATM2202) with CR2477 battery. The maximum power consumption will be 5mA peak for few mS time. Can I use two CR2477 batteries directly in parallel to increase the run time?
Adding a schottky diode is not possible because of the voltage drop. I don't know about using a P-ch MOSFET to product reverse charge will work because of the very low supply voltage.
Can I use a series resistor for each batteries for reverse charge protection.
Or is it Ok to connect the batteries directly in parallel because of internal high impedance characteristics of the battery?

Please provide a good suggestion.

Hi,

you should avoid to connect two batteries in parallel, as you can not ensure that they will discharge in the same way or that they have the same start of life voltage (under load).

You migt use a ideal diode. But first you should check if schottky diodes could by used by considering the following points

  • what's the minimum tolerated supply voltage of the ASIC
  • What's the idle current consumption, and the resulting voltage drop if flowing across a schottky diode
  • might the energy be buffered by a capacitor located at the cathodes of the diodes
