hc12 programming

Hi, I want to count the number of signals that come in and output it on my 7 segment display using HC12 programming. There's a built in HCS12 Enhanced Capture Timer module, but i'm a newbie and not so sure how to get it working. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm hoping to move on from this point if it works to counting heart pulses from a sensor, to use as a heart beat counter.
