do you have any idea regarding what you want to make? or what you want to use for your project..
if your choice is 8051 you can check here.. many projects to select from
8051 projects

The microcontroller can be anytihng, 8051 is prefered though.

I changed the subject to "cool ..." to make every one happy.

When somebody ask me what would be a great or a cool project to make,
here's my answer " find a need, and feel that need".

Do some projects of some use. not just a blinking light.

u can use atmega8 for start.read its datasheet and then u can implement temprature measuring and showing it on LCD.
