Connecting GSM modem to PIC 16F877A

Can you please someone advice whether Assembly can be used to estabilish cmmunication between a PIC and GSM modem. My requirement is to switch on a bulb remotely.
I dont have much knowlege on C language.

Thanks lot for sharing it but I am still beginner. So It would be much greatful if I cud find a simple project from which I can learn the start.
