What is the difference between the continous wave mode and pulsed mode lasers?
What structures are used for CW and what structures for pulsed?
What is the limitation using a CW laser diode in pulsed mode?

Laser diode

Generally, laser diode can be modulated digitally or in contiueosly. I n digital application such as OOL, the laser diode will be injected by a current of two values, under threshold and above threshold to get ON OFF pulse. the limitations are many...such as laser line width, temperature of operation, laser FM transfer function and RIN noise and MPN noise in the case of multimode laser diodes. (this is summary) the complete is like a sea, so specified please

Re: Laser diode

CW means its duty cycle is longer. Pulsed means the duty cycle is broken up into time chunks. Solid state (semiconductor) lasers can not tolerate CW mode as they could fail within a few hours of operation so they operate better in pulsed mode. Gas lasers do much better in CW mode and are used in optical communications.
