mcu programmer schematics

I want to spend around 50 bucks for a commerical programmer. Any recommendation?

I'm not sure about how much programmers cost... but for 50 bucks you could make yourself one. It is a very simple circuit. Google 'pony programmer'. check the first link you get. there are two schematics given in the website. go for the simple one.

Digi-Key has the ATAVRISP for around $25.00.
will do al the avr's and atmegas with their own software.

Why build one if you don't have time, this is a great tool for only $25.

The part number is ATAVRISP-ND.

If you just want to program the classic avr series (not the atmega's)
i found a great avr parallel programmer at kitsrus for $29.00. (Kit 122)

Does not need software except a terminal program. It also programs the fuses.

Why dont you try Proflesh, it has ful series of Atmel MicroContro. you can build you won. I am also using it if you want i will upload it for you.

Exactly what the name says. It wouldn't be easy at all to update programs for surface-mounted microcontroller. You can't remove them from your board, programming in external programmer and fitting back in the board.
Thus with only 4 wires you can program in the system.

i forgot to mention that atmel produce a new single cycle 8051 microcontrollers which can be programmed in circuit and they sell a programmer for 29 $ us
